2 April - It’s the first edition of the Holt Sunday Market in 2023

Holt Sunday Market is a bustling pop up market on the first Sunday of the month between April and December. It is an incredible example of what happens when a community comes together to reclaim the high street. The town centre is closed off to cars and filled with stalls and music. There is a really friendly vibe, and it is so refreshing to be able to just amble the streets without being disturbed by traffic.

HOLT SUNDAY MARKET

FIRST SUNDAY OF MONTH

APRIL TO DECEMBER

On market days Market Place and Star Plain is closed to vehicles for a day of Norfolk's independent best. With over 50 regional makers matched with 6 delicious street food traders, communal dining and buskers.

The seed was planted for Holt Sunday market in the summer of 2020 during the national lock down. Producers short of work, consumers desperate for an experience and Holt without its usual hustle and bustle. The green light was given to outside markets and a curation of over 30 makers was formed on Appleyard every Sunday during July and August. The market turned heads for its authenticity and quality under the leadership of Aviva Leigh and supported by Love Holt. Numbers increased, Sundays became the new Saturday and once the dust settled from a great summer, it was decided that a more significant Sunday Market should be formed.

Shifting from Appleyard, market days in 2021 see Market Place and areas of Shirehall plain closed down to vehicles and regional makers assembled with vibes from our local buskers. Road closures continue on Star Plain with a collection of street food vendors and dining tables stretching through onto the quirky Fish Hill. Many of Holt's independent shops are open making the offer for a great day with a difference complete.

The market has many aspirations:

  • Targeting Sundays as a possible long-term growth day for Holt in line with customers spending habits changing to more online purchasing.
  • Encouraging makers / independents to come into town, trade well at the market... why not set up shop full time in Holt?
  • Product that needs to be seen, touched, and where you meet the maker. Again, the strategy moving away from what is happening online.
  • Provide a great day out for those living and visiting the town.
  • Deliver income for the community.
  • Provide images and video of once again, Holt doing something different.
